Monticello Box Hike

Always Backroads

Our hike through Monticello Box had many rewards – besides walking through a creek in hot weather!

New Mexico Forest Road 142 overlaps Alamosa Creek for a few miles.  That rock in the stream is in the middle of the road.

A small frog found on the edge of the stream.

A crevice spiny lizard.  We spotted three of these showy guys.

Anika, the dog, checking out the creek ahead of us.

A poppy – these were in bloom all along the roads approaching the canyon, but just a few were near the water.

This grass has the softest head and it’s very happy here amongst the water cress.  Water cress sandwich anyone?

Wild grape vines were in abundance.  It’s too early for the fruit.

Until next time.  (Processed in RadLab – Rusty Cage).
