No Bake Cookies


It reached 100 degrees F. in Kansas today and the area I’m in has a heat advisory until 8 PM.  I’ve been thinking about recipes that don’t require having the oven on. No bake cookies are easy to make and can conquer a chocolate attack.

The ingredients are cooked together in a sauce pan and then the mixture is dropped onto waxed paper or foil to harden. The ingredients added to the fudge base can be changed. Many different types of ingredients can be used.

The Food Timeline states in the section about cookies that unbaked sweet confections of nuts, dried fruits and seeds were made by ancient Middle Eastern cooks. The no bake cookie recipes we know today were first published in cookbooks during the Great Depression. The same mixtures were pressed into pans and cut into bars in recipes published in the 1950s.
