Sometimes, decisions made on a whim pay off. In our travel research, we read about a small town a short bus ride away from El Calafate with some good hiking trails. Our resident Morris and two of the three Smiths enjoy hiking, we had hiking boots, we had the incredible luxury of a flexible itinerary–let’s go! When else were we going to be in this remote part of the world?
We took the three-hour bus from El Calafate to El Chaltén, which is situated on the northern part of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares–apparently, this is an expansive park! All buses entering El Chaltén must stop for an information session about how to treat the park with care.
